roomie ux app design.
In this project, our team developed an interactive digital prototype, mirroring the app's interface and evaluating its usability. This process began with a low-fidelity paper prototype and progressed to a mid-to-high-fidelity version using Figma. The app was conceived following the structural model of a dating app. Numerous rounds of testing and diverse research methodologies were undertaken to refine the prototype, ultimately culminating in the creation of the final iteration.

Survey + affinity map
-
I created a survey to gather insights from students about their experiences and perspectives. The goal was to understand user needs and pain points better. After collecting responses, I analyzed the data by identifying common themes that emerged from the answers. These themes were then visualized using an affinity map, structured with the Rose, Bud, and Thorn framework. This allowed me to categorize positive feedback (Rose), opportunities for growth (Bud), and challenges or pain points (Thorn), providing a comprehensive understanding of the user experience.

In class, we split into groups to brainstorm and identify pain points related to the college experience. Each group wrote out these pain points on Post-it notes, capturing various challenges students face. Afterward, we came together as a class to organize the notes by grouping them based on similarities and common themes. This collaborative activity helped us gain a broader understanding of shared issues and patterns, which we could later use to inform our design solutions aimed at improving the college experience.
How might we
-
The team created low-fidelity (paper) prototypes to quickly test design concepts for the Skechers app. These prototypes allowed us to gather early feedback on layout, functionality, and navigation before investing time in high-fidelity designs.
My Role
-
I created my own set of paper prototypes and research. The whole team worked on the Figma prototype and final presentation.
Who and why
-
“As a Freshman/Sophomore in college living on campus, I want to find a compatible roommate so that my college experience isn't stressful and my living situation is satisfactory.”
"As a Freshman/Sophomore in college, I want to set up a profile that showcases who I am as a student and person so that I can find someone with similar interests and lifestyle to live with."
"As a student I want to see a lot of roommate options in one place that tells me a lot about a person in a short synopsis, so that I can quickly find a good match."

Paper Prototype
-
Testing the paper prototype revealed some important insights. We realized that the navigation bars for certain tasks needed adjustment for clarity. On the positive side, users easily recognized the icons and understood how to use the app overall. However, we identified the need to add a save button for one task and simplify the navigation on the sign-up and home pages, as some users found them confusing. These changes helped refine the app's usability.
