roomie ux app design.
In this project, our team developed an interactive digital prototype, mirroring the app's interface and evaluating its usability. This process began with a low-fidelity paper prototype and progressed to a mid-to-high-fidelity version using Figma. The app was conceived following the structural model of a dating app. Numerous rounds of testing and diverse research methodologies were undertaken to refine the prototype, ultimately culminating in the creation of the final iteration.

Survey + affinity map
-
I designed and distributed a student survey, analyzed responses for recurring themes, and synthesized insights using a Rose, Bud, Thorn affinity map to identify strengths, opportunities, and pain points.
mapping
-
In class, we brainstormed college experience pain points on Post-its, then grouped them by theme. This collaborative activity revealed common challenges to inform future design solutions.
How might we
-
We used a “How Might We” exercise to reframe challenges as opportunities, helping the team generate and prioritize ideas for prototyping.

“As a Freshman/Sophomore in college living on campus, I want to find a compatible roommate so that my college experience isn't stressful and my living situation is satisfactory.”
"As a Freshman/Sophomore in college, I want to set up a profile that showcases who I am as a student and person so that I can find someone with similar interests and lifestyle to live with."
"As a student I want to see a lot of roommate options in one place that tells me a lot about a person in a short synopsis, so that I can quickly find a good match."

Paper Prototype
-
Testing the paper prototype showed that while users understood the icons, navigation needed tweaks. We added a save button and simplified the sign-up and home pages to improve overall usability.
My Role
-
I created a set of paper prototypes and conducted user research, while collaborating with the team on the Figma prototype and final presentation.
